Case study · Fiber Optic Cabling

One solid network for three sites

Electric cooperative
Joined by fiber, in two phases

Visayas, Philippines

Overview

A regional electric cooperative in the Visayas engaged LMI to link its main office, its sub-office and a substation with fiber. The work ran in two phases, accepted in February 2025 and September 2026.

LMI surveyed the route, mapped it pole by pole, built the aerial link and proved it with OTDR testing before each handover.

6 kmfiber route from the main office to the sub-office (approx.)
125poles surveyed and mapped with coordinates
2phases, each closed with a signed acceptance test

The challenge

  • Three sites to link: the main office, a sub-office and a substation
  • A route of about 6 km over 125 utility poles
  • Poles owned by two parties, the cooperative and a telecom company
  • Aerial cable that has to stay maintainable, with service loops along the route

The result

  • Phase 1 accepted in February 2025, with OTDR and link-loss tests passed
  • Phase 2 accepted in September 2026, with every active link tested end to end
  • Cables labeled and splice enclosures sealed against moisture
  • Managed switches installed and tested, with UPS backup power

On recordSigned acceptance test and certificate for each phase.

How LMI solved it

  1. 1Survey

Surveyed the route and recorded every pole with GPS coordinates on aerial maps.

  2. 2Design

Documented the design: route maps, a splicing diagram and a link budget.

  3. 3Build

Hung 8-core single-mode cable on the approved poles, spliced it into sealed enclosures and installed switches with UPS power.

  4. 4Test and hand over

Tested with OTDR, link loss, ping and SFP checks, then a signed acceptance test and certificate.

Site challenge

  1. 1Poles owned by two parties, and permits needed from every agency concerned.
  2. 2Aerial cable needs slack for repairs: a 20 m loop at both ends and every 300 m.
  3. 3Work at height on poles along the route.
  4. 4Phase 2 tested every active link, not a sample.

What you get with LMI

Digital transformation requires solid infrastructure.

Every new system depends on the infrastructure beneath it. LMI builds that foundation so your team can find it, maintain it and trust it.

Your sites work as one

Main office, sub-office and substation joined by fiber, so your systems can reach every site.

ProofTwo phases, three sites connected.

A base to build on

A documented route and tested links give new systems a network they can rely on.

ProofEvery active link tested in phase 2.

Faults you can find and fix

Every pole is recorded and slack loops are built in, so a fault can be located and repaired.

Proof125 poles recorded; 15 maintenance loops.

Confidence at handover

Your team witnesses the tests and signs the acceptance test before you depend on the link.

ProofSigned acceptance in both phases.
